Our Living High Priest, Jesus Christ

 

In the last lesson we saw the protection of believers as Jesus is praying this High Priestly prayer on behalf of all who are given to Him by the Father. Today we dive a bit deeper into this prayer and see that the application of it is particular to all who believe in the past, now and forever. This prayer and its specifics are eternal because God who is praying and who is being prayed too is eternal!

Ruth 2 21-23 The Place of Blessing

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 
(Acts 17:26) 

John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments. We obviously have a responsibility to be led by God and yield to His commands in love. We will hopefully see in these few verses the example of obedience and the responsibility and blessings associated with trusting the God of Creation.

The Embedded Narrative of God Psalm 23 

I would like to take a break from the Ruth story to discuss something amazing but still use the overall narrative of Ruth’s story to show a very interesting thing about the Bible. Most people know that the Bible has over 60 thousand cross references and connected verses that are prophetic, prophecy fulfillment and is a tapestry of interwoven literature and most of these writers never knew or met the other in life. I would like to take that a bit deeper today although in and of itself the interconnectedness of scripture is amazing and God.

Chapter 23

 

1(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

John 17:13-16 The Purpose of Believers!

John 17; 13-16 Jesus Prepares Us for Life and Service! 
 Here in this part of the prayer we see God has made preparation for all believers to live a life of service and purpose as witnesses and believer Priests of God. It is in this life that we complete our development and transition into the fully formed servant of Jesus Christ that will be our forever identity

John 17:11-12 The Protection of Believers

The Gospel of John 17:11-  The Protection of God for believers! 

Jesus continues in His High Priestly prayer on behalf of all humanity He has been given to save by the Father. Jesus stands in the vast gap between fallen mankind and the great and Holy God of Creation. He has completed the work the Father gave Him in “eternity past” and now He declares this to us and all creation! What a momentous moment in time. 

 

 

 

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Ruth 2 18-20 Naomi's Eyes Are Awakened to God's Love!

And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.

19And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.

20And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

Gospel of John Chpt 17:6-10 Jesus our Security and Peace

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are looking at the Divine conversation between the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. In this conversation we see purpose, protection, and sovereign power to accomplish the will of God. I hope that we will also see something of God’s attributes, the characteristics that are unique to Him as a being.

I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Ruth 2 15-17 The Special Provision of His Love to Us

And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

16And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.

17So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.

And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
